It is essential for all door furniture to be fitted in a way which ensures the fire resisting properties of the door itself isn’t compromised.

Commonly, it is recommended ironmongery be embedded in intumescent mastic or paste. However, we believe that a quicker, easier, cleaner and more accurate solution is to use shaped pads of intumescent material (Mono Ammonium Phospate or MAP) commonly known as Interdens.

Interdens intumescent material is suitable for both glazing and insulation behind hinges locks and closers. The strips are available with self-adhesive 1m strips formed in varying sizes.

To take a look at all available sizing, see drop-down box for options.

Intumescent lock protection consists of fire-resistant materials designed to be applied around lock cases, cylinders, handles, and other fire door hardware on fire-rated doors. These intumescent materials expand when exposed to fire temperatures to seal gaps and prevent fire and smoke from penetrating through hardware areas.

When exposed to high temperatures, the intumescent material expands forming a barrier that seals around the lock mechanism and prevents fire penetration through the hardware.

Fire resistant lock protection protects gaps in fire door assemblies that can compromise fire integrity. Without proper protection around the lock mechanism, these gaps become weak points where fire, smoke, and hot gases can penetrate, potentially causing the entire fire door assembly to fail its fire rating.

When properly applied, intumescent lock protection should not affect normal operation of the lock mechanism.
